Additional Information
Lucentis
Buy Lucentis for patients that have diabetic eye disease. With the generic name ranibizumab, it is made from a human antibody fragment, and can also be used to treat age related macular degeneration, as well as other problems of the retina.
What makes a good candidate?
This medication is best used by patients that have diseases and/or conditions caused by the growth of abnormal new blood vessels in the eye, which can then leak and lead to vision impairment and even loss.
Areas Treated with Lucentis
This solution targets the eyes.
How does Lucentis work?
Lucentis is a recombinant humanized lgG1 kappa isotype monoclonal antibody fragment designed for intraocular use. The ranibizumab latches on to the vascular endothelial growth factor A, or VEGF-A, and inhibits its biological activity. VEGF-A is crucial for the continued growth of the abnormal blood vessels that are causing the symptoms, and blocking it, Lucentis slows down the continued growth of those abnormal blood vessels.
Treatment Details
The solution is introduced into the affected eye via intravitreal injection by a qualified healthcare professional under strict aseptic conditions. Anesthetic can be used prior to injection in order to numb the eye. Prior to injection, patients should be monitored for 30 minutes for intraocular pressure elevation via tonometry. This can also consist of checking for perfusion of the optic nerve head after the injection. After application of the solution, the injected eye/s will be monitored for a while.
How long does Lucentis last?
Lucentis is recommended to be administered once every 28 days. The dosage depends on the condition being treated. It can also be done less frequently, but the results will be less effective. The recommended dosages and frequency are as follows:
For wet AMD
-Lucentis 0.5mg (0.05ml of 10mg/ml solution) every 28 days
-3 monthly doses followed by less frequent sessions with regular assessment.
For macular edema following retinal vein occlusion
-Lucentis 0.5mg (0.05ml of 10mg/ml solution) every 28 days for at least 6 months for proper effect
For Diabetic Macular Edema and Diabetic Retinopathy
-Lucentis 0.3mg (0.05ml of 6mg/ml solution) every 28 days
For Myopic Choroidal Neovascularization
-Lucentis 0.5mg (0.05ml of 10mg/ml solution) every 28 days for up to 3 months. However, retreatment can be done if needed.
